This post is only for users using Sideloaded Regram IPA on non-jailbroken devices
The issue
If your notifications only show “You have a new notification” instead of the actual message, the cause is most likely the Fix Emojis & Popups option in Regram settings.
Turn it off and notifications should go back to normal:
- Open Regram Settings
- Turn Fix Emojis & Popups OFF
- Restart Instagram
What this feature does
On Sideloaded Instagram, two things don’t stick after you restart the app:
- “New feature” popups show up again every time you open the app
- Custom reaction emojis in DMs reset back to default
Fix Emojis & Popups makes both of those save properly. The downside is that, for some users, it breaks push notifications and replaces the real message with a generic “You have a new notification” text.
Use the feature without breaking notifications
You don’t have to choose one or the other. Do this once:
- Turn Fix Emojis & Popups ON
- Open Instagram, dismiss the new feature popups, and set your DM reaction emojis
- Restart Instagram
- Turn Fix Emojis & Popups OFF again
Your popups stay dismissed, your emojis stay saved, and your notifications keep working.
Only repeat these steps if Instagram shows new popups again or you want to change your reaction emojis.
If notifications still show the generic text after turning the option off, make sure you’re not on a duplicate app. Notifications require the original IPA version of Regram with a proper certificate. See Regram Sideloading Notifications.
